Underwater wonderland: Divers take the plunge to reveal stunning images of beautiful crystal cave in depths of Russia

It looks like the set of a Hollywood action movie but these images were taken by a team of expert cave divers in the depths of Russia.

A team of daring cave divers have produced an incredible photo-reportage of the longest underwater gypsum crystal cave in the world.

The Orda Cave in the western Urals region is three miles of eerily dramatic natural channels created by water so clear divers can see over 50 yards ahead of them.

Over a period of six months the intrepid team led by photographer and journalist, Victor Lyagushkin, 40, from Russia explored the water filled cave tunnels at temperatures barely above freezing.

The space shuttle Atlantis thundered into orbit today, writing the final chapter in a 30-year story of triumphs, tragedy and, ultimately, unfulfilled expectations.

A million-strong crowd crammed into Cape Canaveral surrounding towns to bid an emotional farewell to the shuttle as they watched it lift off on its 135th and final mission.

They lined causeways and beaches around the central Florida site, angling for a last glimpse of the pioneering ship that has defined the U.S. space program for the past 30 years.

While there were nervy moments as the countdown stalled for two minutes at 31 seconds while engineers fixed a problem with launch pad equipment - nothing  could stop the historic lift off.

'Good luck to you and your crew on this final flight of this true American icon,' shuttle launch director Mike Leinbach radioed to the crew minutes before takeoff, adding: 'Have a little fun up there.'

It will be at least three years - possibly five or more - before astronauts launch again from U.S. soil, and so this final journey of the shuttle era packed in crowds and roused emotions on a scale not seen since the Apollo moon shots. After days of gloomy forecasts full of rain and heavy cloud cover, the spaceship lifted off at 11.29am local time (16.29 GMT) - just two minutes late - thundering away on the 135th shuttle mission 30 years and three months after the very first flight. The four experienced space fliers rode Atlantis from the same pad used more than a generation ago by the Apollo astronauts. The shuttle was visible for 42 seconds before disappearing into the clouds. Nasa waived its own weather rules to allow the lift-off to go forward. In the end, though, the countdown was delayed not by the weather but by the need to make certain the launch pad support equipment was retracted all the way. The crew will deliver a year's worth of critical supplies to the International Space Station and return with as much rubbish as possible.

Moonbows, Rainbows Of The Night at Yosemite National Park

Somewhere over the... moonbow: Dazzling arc of colour lights up night sky at Yosemite National Park

This dazzling arc of colour soaring across the night sky looks unreal. But this is no fantasy or trick of the light, it is known as a moonbow, the rainbow of the night. These rare lunar rainbows can only be seen in a few places on earth.

Spectacular: Sunlight is reflected off the moon to create this dazzling arc of colour in the Yosemite National Park The Yosemite National Park in California is one of the best places to catch a glimpse of the phenomenon. Sunlight reflects off the moon and hits the droplets spraying off the park's spectacular waterfalls. 'A lot of people don't realise that we even get rainbows at night in Yosemite,' said Steve Bumgardner who took these images as part of a new video of the spectacle.

Psychedelic wonder of galaxies at night: Incredible images taken by amateur astronomer using a camera and home-made telescope These spectacular images of galaxies thousands of light years away would appear to have been taken using state-of-the-art equipment. In fact, they were captured by amateur astronomer Georgiy Suturin using just a camera and a home-made telescope. The extraordinary photos include the twinkling beauty of the Orion Nebula, and the Rosette Nebula - an object so massive it would take 130 years travelling at the speed of light to go from one side to the other. Beautiful Pictures of World Freezing!!

Beautiful pictures of world freezing!!

As Britain is facing some of its first widespread flurries of snow, breathtaking images from around the world reveal gorgeous landscapes covered in ice and buried under snowdrifts. In Eastern Europe, the Black Sea froze near the Romanian coastline and villagers in Serbia and Bosnia were airlifted from their homes after being cut off without food.The dramatic icy weather has caused traffic chaos, power outages and even deaths all over the planet as people battle frostbite and hypothermia.

The waters of the Black Sea are frozen near the shore in Constanta, Romania.

Married Men Only

A factory had a policy of hiring only married men. Concerned about this, a local Woman's

Liberation Front Leader called on the CEO and asked him,

"Why is it you limit your employees to married men?

It must be because you consider us women are weak, dumb, cantankerous (bad-tempered & complaining a lot) or do you consider us as tantrum throwers, bossy, etc?"

"Not at all, Ma'am," the CEO replied.

"Our policy is to hire staff:

ØWho are used to obeying orders without questioning;

Ø Who are accustomed to being shoved around;

ØKnow how to keep their mouths shut; and

ØPut up with anything when I yell at them

And we only find these qualities in Married Men.
